There are a lot of apps for your home on the market. Many of them help you make your house smarter and everyday life easier. Here are three of our favourite apps right now.

August makes smart locks that you can control with an app
August’s goal is to build products and services that enable people to monitor and manage entry into their homes from wherever they are. For example, the August smart lock enables you to open your home remotely from your smartphone. Great if you are waiting for deliveries but are unable to be home at a specific time. You can send virtual keys to guests so that they can access your home. You are also able to receive notifications when your kids get home after school.
The company is founded by technology entrepreneur Jason Johnson and designer Yves Béhar. Like many other tech companies they have a designer as founder, which becomes more and more common since user experience and design are crucial for companies of today to succeed.
Flic turns any product into a smart one
Flic is a small wireless button that you can stick anywhere. With just one click, you can turn your lights on, raise the room temperature and turn on your favourite playlist. It connects to your iOS or Android device and is integrated with your home automation tools.
The button can be triggered in 3 different ways: click, double click and hold. More things you can do with Flic are finding your lost phone, take photos from remote or post on social media. A real opportunity for creative home-owners. The smart button can also be used for safety. If you are in a dangerous situation you can press or hold the button to alert your friends and family with your GPS-location. Another option is to connect it with social networks to share pre-written messages like status or location using Slack, Facebook and other social networks.
Flic is great if you want to make your already existing home smarter without buying a whole lot of new products. With a prize of only 34 USD per button it’s ideal for techy homeowners on a smaller budget.

Nest has a number of different products that makes your home smarter. Our favourite is the Nest Thermostat that helps you save energy in your house or apartment. It learns what temperature you like and builds a schedule around it. If you turn up the heat a few days in a row, Nest learns you like eating breakfast at 70º. So it warms up the house as you get out of bed. And it lowers the temperature when you are away to make your home more energy efficient.
Nest products are sold in the U.S., U.K., Canada, France, Belgium, Ireland and the Netherlands. The Nest Thermostat has helped save approximately four billion kWh of energy to date. Through the ”Works with Nest” program, Nest is also aiming at integrating other smart products in their eco system. The new product will then start communicating with the Nest product so they learn from each other. Pretty cool, right?
The smart home market is still quite immature and there are many products out there. We hope you find these tips helpful in making your home smarter and more efficient.
